I've spent my career leading and mentoring people in for-purpose organisations. Originally trained as a social worker, I've committed myself to leading services that have the potential to deliver real change in the lives of individuals and the broader community.
After 30 years working in and leading a diverse range of organisations, I've distilled the key to great workplace culture, improved retention and innovation to one central premise:
Skilled, empathic people leaders who shepherd their teams with trust building, accountability and a learning frame at the fore, are the central pillar to excellent organisational outcomes.
Is strategy and planning important? Of course
Is recruiting for excellence critical? No question
Do good organisational processes have an impact? Definitely
But without excellent people leadership none of it matters.
Leaders and managers need to move away from relying on their technical skills and using a 'knowing frame’ which asks them to tell and direct. Instead they need to move towards a ‘learning and coaching frame’ which allows them to influence behaviours, build trusting relationships, engage with their teams to explore problems and solutions and build accountability.
With a particular interest in early and mid-career leaders, I offer individual coaching to assist organisations and individual leaders to develop the necessary skills to lead with confidence, through the application of simple and effective strategies that can be applied quickly.
